Dr Karima Lacene

Dr. Karima Lacène obtained her Ph.D. and M.Ed. degrees in counselling and school psychology from the University of Alberta, Edmonton. She became a registered psychologist in the province of Alberta in 1999, and worked as a school psychologist for the Edmonton Public School Board. She also obtained a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology (Highest Honours) from Carleton University.

Dr. Lacène is a registered psychologist with the College of Psychologists of Ontario. For the past six years, Dr. Karima Lacène has worked full time as a psychologist at the Centre for Students with Disabilities at Algonquin College. She works with a diverse population of students, but the majority of students on her caseload have a learning disability and/or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. She provides assessment and counselling services to her students. In addition, she regularly consults with faculty on accommodation and disability issues.

Dr. Lacène has also maintained a private practice for the past five years. She provides psycho-educational assessments to children, adolescents and adults in order to evaluate Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD), learning disabilities and giftedness. Her research interests and publications have included: Working Memory and Processing Speed Difficulties in Individuals with ADHD, Coping with Brain Injuries, Stress Inoculation Training in the Treatment of Public Speaking Anxiety, and Teachers’ and Administrators’ Descriptions of Violence and Serious Disruptive Behaviours in Alberta schools.
